I dont see Medvedev giving up his home title easy. He overcame multiple varied opponents and probably gave up participation of Laver Cup for this tournament. I honestly believe we are witnessing one of the most talented and professional tennis player of the near future in the making. What a talent he is.

There is certainly value in Medvedev, but I question how far is he willing to fight to win. We know Rafa will never give it over so Medvedev will have to take it and as much I respect him as a talents professional sportsman, I feel a loss at the US Open final after three consecutive finals and his first masters title wouldn't be seen as a bad month at all.
There is no side for Meds to concentrate on, most of his serves will be returned unless he really puts them away, and with Rafa so deep on return, Meds would need to come into net which is one of the weakest parts of his game. Its going to be tough for Medvedev, but I would love to see him do it (but maybe after Rafa has won the same amount of titles are Federer).

This feels different. Haven't felt like we have had this Serena since her pregnancy. She is serious and hungry and I think this time no one is stopping her.

In my time of watching tennis I have learnt never to make judgements based on potential fatigue. Especially for the under 33s. There are so many techniques to speed up recovery, players are spoilt for choice.

So many dynamics going on in this match. I sure hope it lives up to the expectation. Serena is looking really good and Svitolina is enjoying her tennis. Can Svitolina push Serena to her max or can Serenas dominating tennis see her past the finish line. Hard to call but leaning Serenas way.

Medvedev has a solid game, great smooth serve and looks completely in the zone. This won't be an injured Federer that Dimitrov is facing. Medvedev is one of the most inform players this month and I believe he is making his first US Open Final.

McNally is looking mightily impressive. Great variety and didn't drop the second set like most young up and coming female players tend to do. A sign of good mental strength. Giorgi also looking like she is back playing her quality tennis. She be a great match but hard to back a young gun in new territory pre match for me.

'Never say die' Sakkari was VERY impressive yesterday to make a comeback against Svitolina. I wonder how much it took out of her. I think shes got this one.
  • Jessica Pegula (USA) d. Anna Kalinskaya (RUS) 6-3 3-6 6-1

Kalinskaya looked at breaking point in her last match. The heat and her long run from qualification seems to have caught up with her. After winning her match against a poor performing Mladanovic she went on to lose her doubles match. She is young and could bounce back with those young muscles but if Pegula can dig in on every point as she did in her previous match then I see the young Russian throwing her toys out the pram and giving up. I cant make a pre match bet on Pegula based on my prediction of fatigue. On skills Kalinskaya is a great ball striking so if she is in good shape she is capable of winning this. Therefore, I cannot make a pre match bet and must see her attitude on court first. Finally, being on home turf gives a little extra reason for Pegula to fight to the end.
