Semifinal day for the Women side of the draw and we are in for a treat as both clashes look tasty to say the least.

(1) Serena Williams v (4) Maria Sharapova

Serena had to battle through a fierce resistance against Azarenka in her last match. The American had to be on absolute best including vey clutch play on big points of the match to manage to put aside the Belarussian.

“I can’t say I went out there and didn’t play well,” Azarenka said. “We just saw today why Serena is No. 1. I haven’t seen her play like this, honestly, even in the last matches before that.”

“Against Venus in the fourth round, Serena won in straight sets playing at a very good level, but the short balls came earlier,” said Patrick Mouratoglou, Williams’s coach. “It was boom, boom, and then the short ball came, and she was able to finish. Against Azarenka, it was boom, boom, and the short ball didn’t come. Serena had to hit five, six shots, and that was still no guarantee. She had to really lift.”

“Serena has played at this level before, when she won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics here. But she was totally dominating her opponents. It was one-way traffic. Azarenka pushed her to another level today, and that is rare.”

It’s really getting tougher and tougher to beat the American in a big match, not to mention deep into a tournament, now is Sharapova’s turn to try accomplish that but she has to reverse some nasty trends in order to do so.

Maria is trailing the h2h 2-17 and hasn‘t beaten the world no.1 in more than 10 years.

She was pushed by Coco Wanderweghe and although she failed to serve it out in the 2^nd set and lost it in a tiebreak, the Russian gave her opponent no chance in the decider.

“I was pretty dominant in the first and early in the second set but things slipped away,” said the five-times grand slam champion.

With that victory she has now won 20 of her 23 played Grand Slam Quarter Final Appearances.

“She’s playing with a lot of confidence but I really regrouped in the third.

“You have to give everything you have on a special occasion on a special court.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been at the semi-final stage (at Wimbledon) so I’m really happy.”

With the way Maria has been playing so far she really needs to put on a different gear to match what the American has put on the table so far this tournament and especially the alst 2 rounds – against her sister and Azarenka

That’s what Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena’s coach had more to say about the matchup

“Azarenka does not have a mental block against Serena,” he said. “Serena simply plays tennis much better than she does. For me, Azarenka is much better than Sharapova. There’s no discussion. Sharapova is a great champion. She has great qualities. She fights incredibly and has tremendous mental strength. But at some stage, her level of play hits a ceiling.

“That said, Serena is not immune to a bad match, right? All streaks have to end, but even if she has a bad match one day and loses, we cannot say there is not an enormous gap in their level of play.”

(20) Garbine Muguruza v (13) Agnieszka Radwanska

Garbine is in her first Grand Slam Semifinal and unexpectedly by many is coming on the Grass Courts of London.

Her casualty list continues to grow and after eliminating 2 top 10 players – Kerber and Wozniacki she took out a top 20 one in Timea Bacsinzsky

“It is just amazing. I am so happy. It was a very tough match and I am just so excited. The last game was very intense,”

It is very hard to make the last four of Wimbledon, so to achieve this I am very proud.”

She happens to be the first Spanish woman to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals since Arantxa Sanchez Vicario did it in 1997

Muguruza is playing some beautiful tennis and manages to take the right ball to hit it harder and to get down their opponents with the force she naturally posseses. Timea pushed her really hard with the variety and mix game she can display,but at the end wasn’t enough.

Radwanska put aside other heavy hitter in face of Madison Keys. Her crafty game proved to be too much for the American which ended with 48 Winners and 40 errors.

“It couldn’t be any better. I’m so happy,” Radwanska told BBC Sport.

“It was very tight, point by point, game by game. Serve was the key so one break and there you go.”

This will be a good preparation for the Pole ahead of the clash vs Garbine,but the Spaniard has more sense when to attack and when o just raly in order to get a good ball to fiercely hit than the American.

H2H is tied with 2 wins apiece, but Muguruza won the latest encounters both coming this year on Hard Courts. Sometimes is tough to get solutions against such a good mover and excellent defender Agnieszka is as she has lot of weapons to keep it close against heavy hitting players.
