Wimbledon Men’s Final

After 2 weeks of quality Tennis it will all come down to this
(1) Novak Djokovic v (2) Roger Federer
Rematch of last year’s final when Novak won in emphatic 5 set battle.
Roger comes here after a very convincing win over Andy Murray in the Semis. He won amazingly 87% off his 1st service against one of the best returners in the game and also faced only 1 break point in the entire match, which happened in the first game of the tie.
Seems his concentration is back in the very high level and although many doubted the difficulty of the draw he has had, he undoubtedly showed very high quality game and didn’t give the Scot much of a chance to get a grip on the match, as Roger was simply looking cool, comfortable and relaxed.
“It’s been tough. Andy has been playing very well for the season,” Federer said. “I expected four or five sets. I played so well on the biggest occasion today and that’s probably why I won it.
“I’ve been serving very well for the entire tournament. My serve was good again, against one of the best returners. I kept the pressure up, I went for my shots and was able to mix it up the way I usually do it. It all worked out very well.”
Murray said: “He served fantastic, apart from the first game where I had the chance there.
“I didn’t really have any opportunities. Then that puts pressure on you.
“The pressure builds throughout the set that way… That’s definitely the best he served against me.”
“I got broken right at the end all of the sets,” he pointed out. “But I didn’t actually play a bad match. At times I played some very good tennis.
Despite some level of discomfort for Djokovic as a trainer was called to treat his left shoulder in the 2nd set of his semis vs Gasquet, he cruised with the 3 set win.
“Just received some changeover treatment — it’s nothing major that concerns me for the next match,” Djokovic said.
It was a good performance, considering the occasion,” added Djokovic. “It’s always tough. Richard had a great tournament and deserved to be in the semis.
“The first set could have gone his way but luckily it went to me.”
With Richard adding what is really hard when you face the World Number 1
“His return. That’s the best because he never misses a return. All the time serve you serve, the ball is always on your side again. It’s very difficult.”
Head to head is pretty close, 20-19 for the Serb with tied at 1 on the Grass. Djokovic will be trying to win his third Wimbledon and ninth Grand Slam title, just over a month after missing out on winning a first Roland Garros. He also seeks to join his coach, Boris Becker, and John McEnroe on three Wimbledon titles.
“This is where he loves to play. This is where he plays his best tennis, I think. It’s his court,” said Djokovic for his match versus Roger, who will seek to join his coach Boris Becker on three Wimbledon titles.
“It was a very important match for me to win last year because I’ve lost quite a few grand slam finals. To win that match in five sets against Roger on grass was definitely something that gave me a lot of confidence.”
Federer meanwhile didn’t give much attention to last year’s final
“I just remember it was unbelievably thrilling. The crowd really got into it,” he said. “It’s great to play Novak anywhere these days, because he’s had unbelievable success.
“The last few years he’s been unbelievably dominant, especially on the hard courts, then he improved on the grass. On the clay, he’s one of the best, if not the best.
“He’s become very match tough. He always shows up. It’s tough to beat him. He’s been good for the game.”
Federer who is turning 34 soon is seeking his 18-th Grand Slam title and first after 2012.
Should be exciting and thrilling final which is expected to be spectacular from start to end and full of twists and turns. Everybody understands that they simply know each other well and have no secrets between them.
Match is due to start at 14.00 British time and prepare food and drinks as this may take a while to conclude
