  • Lauren Davis (USA) d. Sofya Zhuk (RUS) 3-6 6-3 6-0
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Semi Final
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%

Lauren used to be a warrior, playing as though her life depended on every point. For some reason she seems to have lost that fire and drive. She hasn't played much this year and her very good ranking has slipped to 200+. She's playing well here and stringing a few wins together may help her confidence.
Sofya has had an impressive year. She hasn't avoided the big girls. Tested herself at the 4 Slams, also at Doha, Dubai, Indian Wells, etc. Not bad for 18. She has been good to me this week. I'll stick. Hoping for a Peng/Zhuk final. Otherwise I'll need to sell a kidney.
  • Shuai Peng (CHN) d. Jessica Pegula (USA) 6-4 6-3
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Semi Final
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%

Shuai Peng's Grand Slam singles record: 53-47. Jessica Pegula's Grand Slam singles record: 1-2.
Peng has been missing for 4 months but has apparently returned fit and well.
    Pegula's ranking in January was 600+, now it's 125.
Peng's ranking in January was 27 but her time off has made a mess of her current rating.
I think Peng is a superior player to Pegula. Peng returning from poor form and a break,
Pegula probably at her best. Still prefer Peng. Expect her to play Zhuk in the final.
  • Lauren Davis (USA) d. Katherine Sebov (CAN) 6-1 6-3
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)

    It's Youngsters Day at Houston.
I lean to Osuigwe (17), Stollar (20) and Zhuk (18) in the earlier QFs so
I'll take the 19 year old Sebov to complete the parlay.
    Scientific I know!
  • Sofya Zhuk (RUS) d. Heather Watson (GBR) 7-5 6-4
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Quarter Final
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%
    Nov 16 2018 11:54:16
Heather is 18-22 in WTA and 4-10 in Premiers last 12 months.
Sofya is 17-12 in and 10-7 in Premiers.
Sofya is 18 years old, Heather is 26.
I think Sofya probably needs a break before Australia calls but
    I'll have a modest go.
  • Jessica Pegula (USA) d. Fanny Stollar (HUN) 6-3 6-3
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Quarter Final
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%

Jessica had a great tournament at Quebec City. Apart from that her recent
record is pretty ordinary, even on the ITF circuit.
Fanny has played a lot more WTA tournaments. Played on grass, clay,
hard court in Europe, North America, Asia. Gaining experience. Her current
all time high ranking of 120 puts her in some hot company on the under 21 years list.
I thought Jessica but the more I look the more I'm a Fanny fan!
  • Shuai Peng (CHN) d. Whitney Osuigwe (USA) 6-2 7-6(3)
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Quarter Final
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%
    Nov 16 2018 11:06:14
Shuai Peng was ranked 27 in January. After a very ordinary start to 2018
she took a four month break and resumed at Houston with two 3 set victories.
Whitney is 17 and a potential future star. Her career seems to be in good hands.
Playing suitable tournaments, gaining experience. Young, ambitious.
I lean to Peng but if the young and hungry get a sniff, look out!
  • Sofya Zhuk (RUS) d. Dalma Galfi (HUN) 4-2 ret.
    at Houston WTA Ch (USA)
    Hard Court, Round of 16
    293 (619) Aces -$515 ROI:-2.8% 58%
    Nov 14 2018 12:15:38
Sofya is a highly ranked soon to be 19 year old. Played at Doha, Dubai,
Indian Wells, etc. Mixes with the big girls.
A couple of ordinary results recently but is probably the real deal.
Dalma is 11-13 on hard courts this year. Hasn't reached a Final or SF.
One QF - a loss in Brisbane $25K event. Another young player who
    may be worth watching.
