Why is Ventura a +116 dog against Roitman who he holds a 2-0 record against? My guess is that the oddsmakers like Roitman in this match or they think he will have more backers. I'm going with Ventura.

Monaco has certainly rode his luck so far but he is still alive and kicking in the tournament and those sitting on odds of 5 or 4.5 for the tournament are still in a very strong position given his draw. Monaco has his second all Argentine tie of the tournament and he will not want to sail as close to the wins as he did against compatriot Vassallo-Arguello. He should be fully acclimatised now after his Aussie Open exploits, he already holds a verdict over Brzezicky and is superior in every department to his countryman and should progress to the semis with the minimum fuss.

Cuevas has served his apprenticeship on the lesser circuits and the young Uruguayan has raised a few eyebrows with victories over Coria and Verdasco this week. He has a serve at least on a par with that of Acasuso but like a number of players it will be a matter of how high he can keep his first serve percentage and how well he can protect his second delivery. Acasuso has come through both matches so far in straight sets, the Argentine has some quality groundstrokes and a decent first serve, he is vulnerable on his second serve and can be prone to errors on occasions when he goes for too much. An interesting match in prospect, could we be witnessing the emergence of another top quality South American claycourter in Cuevas? I'm sure Acasuso will be looking to put an end to the youngsters tournament here.

Hopefully Fognini did a number of insight followers a favour when beating Chela in the first round in straight sets, there was quite a following for the young Italian on the sportsbooks as he was backed from 3.6 down to 2.5 pre-match. He served well throughout the contest and saved both break points he faced. Marrero-Santana has started the season extremely well and has already made a final in Chile this year and has already beaten the likes of Ramirez-Hidalgo and Lapentti this year. The pair have met twice before in futures events and the current score is 1-1, although Fognini has the greater scope for improvement this is unlikely to be a walk in the park for the Italian and odds of 1.3 look extremely short.

Ventura enjoyed a much smoother passage to this point of the tournament dropping just 3 games against former French open champion Gaudio. Roitman showed plenty of guts in coming from a set down to beat Massu. Ventura has won both previous meetings between the pair, the latest just last year. This is likely to be a long baseline encounter with little to choose between the pair.

Third seed Juan Monaco needed to save three match points in an all-Argentine battle against Martin Vassallo Arguello on Wednesday in Vina del Mar to secure his place in the Movistar Open quarterfinals with the 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win.
Vassallo Arguello, who reached his first ATP semifinal last year in Vina del Mar, seemed poised to continue his success in Chile. He broke in the 10th game of the second set to level the match, and then took the first lead in the decisive set as he went up 4-2.
But Monaco, the winner of three clay court titles in 2007, fought back to get back on serve in the next game. He then fended off three match points down 5-4, saving two at 15-40 and then another one at ad-out, before proceeding to close out the victory in two hours and 44 minutes.
Monaco is doing things the hard way in this tournament but remains on target for his first final of the season.

Not much difference here in class between Ventura and Roitman in my opinion - i know Roitman as a more defensive player, but he has some very solid groundies and can reach a low error rate. His record makes him a small favourite in this match. My impression of this tournament (i am 3-1 and went with Brzezicki yesterday) is that its quite reasonable to bet against the market - but i am very unsure if this is the case here. Roitman may have some advantages here, in offensive play mostly, and should be out for some revenge after his two losses against Ventura. But the man from spain has enough wit to keep it very tight and around odds of 2.3 and above he looks very interesting at low stakes - but i doubt to get it now.
, he had some more problems with Massu as Ventura versus Gaudio, but the latter seemed to be not comparable in his form to Massu - so all in all its o.k. if Roitman looks like a small favourite at 1.8. Looks like a
very close fight but Roitman should take this chance for some payback. I am 2-1 at this tournament but as the results show (see Verdasco yesterday)its also very reasonable to bet simply against the market here:
but Ventura at 2.1 is too low for this case. Br

Monaco really came to prominence last season with three titles on clay and his all-round game has improved considerably, he doesn't have any real weaknesses at this level of competition, decent serve, good groundies and moves well. Compatriot Vassallo-Arguello reserves his best form for the red stuff and victories over Davydenko and Wawrinka show in the last year show he can be a dangerous opponent. However consistency is not his strong point, Monaco won this match up four years ago in straight sets and should repeat the dose here.

Granollers-Puyol had a highly productive year on the challenger circuit last year with numerous appearances at the buisiness end of tournaments, he has started the year well winning three qualies to reach the first round of the Aussie Open and has already won 4 matches here including qualies. The young Spaniard is ready to chance his arm at this higher level and has done himself no harm so far, he made the quarters in Valencia last year and will be looking to equal his best ever ATP tournament result by winning this match. Brzezicki is also useful at the lower levels and managed a third round showing at the French last year. Both players will feel they have a chance of progressing and this should be a hard fought encounter.

Acasuso put a disappointing start to the season behind him with a straight sets victory over Luczak in the first round, the Argentine has a decent serve and some penetrative groundstokes particularly on the forehand wing and will be expecting to reach the next round. Gimeno has been playing mainly on the challenger and futures circuit but has beaten Djokovic and Calleri in the past suggesting this will not be a pushover for Acasuso.
Tip: ATP Players can have an uncanny liking (or disliking as the case may be) of certain tournaments. These sorts of factors are not directly built into the Insight Tennis Model and often help explain sudden reversals of form.
