| | I am going with Ginepri. Ginepri is such a level-headed player who has the ideal disposition to win this match. Gonzo can melt down when things aren't going his way, although he did show some mental toughness in the past couple of months where he was down in the match and pulled away for the win. Still I think that Ginepri is playing some of his best tennis in a long time. I give the nod to experience and a crafty player and sensi.
Ginepri in 4. |

| | In a repeat of last year's first round match where Gonzy came from a set down to prevail in 4, the Chilean will need to tighten his mental strength if he is to be a danger for this tournament. At Queens, he entered the tennis "Hall of Shame" for racket and ball abuse - something that Gonzy has been no stranger to in recent times. Nevertheless, the explosive South American has won the last 5 encounters with American Robby Ginepri including a professional performance at the French when the veteran was on a hot streak having taken out some more comfy claycourters. Gonzalez has a great game for the grass with a powerful serve, some even heavier groundstrokes and great variety both on the backhand wing and at net, but putting it all together is something he finds a little tougher. He has made it, though, to at leas tthe 3rd round here the last four years, while the American has been a first round casualty the last three. Ginepri is solid on the first ball, but Fernando will be looking to demolish the second serve and from there on it's curtains where he has too much power, accuracy and variety for his one-dimensional opponent who tends to play with a little too much topspin at times. Tiebreaks could be the order of the day if Robby serves well but Gonz has a 140-96 record in them while Ginepri is just 78-71 and at a lower level for a lot of those matches. The American has lost 5 of his last 6 5-setters, and with that superior stamina it only enhances Gonzalez's prospects in what should be a fairly straightforward win at currently quite overstated odds. |

| | I agree, Gonzalez should prove to have too much firepower for Ginepri. I watched these 2 square off at Roland Garros last month and Ginepri served very well during the first set before succumbing to the hitting of the Chilean. Gonzalez has more to his game, a lot more variety and is a past quarter-finalist here. Gonzalez inside the distance. |

| | Gonzo for me, thinking back to their match at Queen's last year and the French the other week. Better mental concentration seemingly and ripping intensity. More threatening shots probably than Ginepri. A good player, maybe a 3 set match? Still taking Gonzo. |

| | Gonzalez has won the last four meetings between the pair including two on grass, the Chilean was a quarter finalist here back in 2005 and has only once suffered a first round exit and has a fair 18-12 record on the turf. Ginepri has fallen at the first hurdle on his last three visists to Wimbledon his best effort coming back in 2004 when he reached the fourth round. The American did take a first set tiebreak against Roddick on his last start at Queens but his overall record of 22-20 on the grass is nothing special. Gonzalez mighty forehand is a big weapon on any surface but his slice backhand really comes into it's own on this surface where it stays pretty low making it extremely hard to attack. Ginepri tends to play with a lot of net clearance which will encourage the attacking play of Gonzalez who will need no second invitation. |

| | lilboi- just as a small piece of advice, in low key tournaments, I never bet on sets because a lot of players experiment with things & sometimes they drop a set on purpose knowing that they can still win the match and, who knows, because 2-1 pays more in betting, I believe some of the players get involved in it as well. As a rule of thumb, I only bet sets in Grand Slams! |
