Defending French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova has been added to Russia's team for this weekend's Fed Cup first-round matchup against Serbia, Russia's tennis federation said Tuesday.
Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev was originally forced to name a second-string squad after all of the leading players turned down the invitation.
Kuznetsova, ranked fourth in the world, then changed her mind and will join 31st-ranked Alisa Kleybanova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (38) and Vera Dushevina (40) on the team.
She replaces Australian Open mixed doubles finalist Ekaterina Makarova for the match in Belgrade.
Russia, which won the Fed Cup in 2004, '05, '07 and '08, lost to eventual champion Italy in last year's semifinals.
