“The return to European clay courts is going great so far. I’m playing well in Monte Carlo, so I’m optimistic about the tournament in Barcelona as well, and the clay court season in general,” said the world #17 at the Monte Carlo Country Club on Thursday. “The truth is that I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead. I want to have the best results possible. It’s where I have always played best and where I feel most comfortable, so I hope to take advantages of these good feelings.”
On his participation at the tournament in Barcelona, Ferrer said he was happy to be able to play at home in front of Spanish fans. “I love playing in Spain and am looking forward to coming back to Barcelona. I’ve always played well there and have enjoyed the unconditional support of the public. I know that it will always be difficult and it’s a very tough tournament, but I hope that I can repeat that, I hope I can get back to the final as I did in the past two years.”
“David is one of the best players in the world on clay, and has been very loyal to this tournament. We love to have him here,” explained Albert Costa, the Sporting Director of the Barcelona Open BancSabadell. The opinion was echoed by Albert Agustí, President of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899, who said, “without doubt we will be able to count on David in the latter rounds of the tournament. He’s is one of the toughest players on the circuit.”
