| | Does anyone know what the result was when Almagro lost to Decoud earlier in the year? I can;t seem to find a meeting between the two. As Almagro came through his first match in such convincing form, it would seem that his injury is something to forget about. He's playing a guy who has never reached any dizzy heights, whereas Almagro is playing superb tennis and is going to prove too much for this journeyman. I'd expect a fight from Decoud in front of his home crowd, but the gulf in class will inevitably prevail over the long 3 set format. |

| | Judging from his first round match, it appears all is fine with Almagro's wrist despite concerns in the lead-up weeks that he may not be fit for this event. Luckily for event organisers, fans and punters alike - he is - and he is definitely one to be wary of even from Nadal's point of view. Almagro has some very explosive groundstrokes from the baseline and despite some recent weight queries from the media seems to be moving very well still. But his underestimated weapon is his serve - he averages around the 205-210 km/h mark and uses the one out wide on the ad court to great effect as well as the body serve in the deuce court. He gets a lot of cheap points from it as Pashanski discovered in the first round where the Spaniard won 81% behind the first ball and served 20 aces with only 1 double fault. Decoud has surprised many this week after struggling at challenger level since February, and outlasted a sloppy Rochus in the first round in a 4 and a half hour matathon. He can hit some crisp groundies from the back but is a little erratic and that will make his undoing here against the baseline brilliance of Almagro. I fully expect Nicolas, provided he stays 100% fit, to not only take this game but also beat his next-up opponent and prove more than a handful against most likely Nalbandian in the 4th. Class will prevail, so too will fresh legs here; under 28 games with PartyBets. |

| | Decoud had suffered three consecutive challenger defeats prior to qualifying, then got in the back door as a lucky loser. He came from a set down against Rochus to win in five in the first round and is now faced up with one of the top Spanish clay merchants. Almagro showed no signs of his wrist injury as he beat Pashanski readily in straight sets in the first round and will be looking to dish out a similar dose here. Decoud did beat Acasuso earlier in the year on clay suggesting he might put up a fight but I doubt it will last long against a player with Almagro's weaponry. |

| | Almagro will destroy Decoud. It's not his fault just that Almagro is a much better player. |

| | Yes, Decoud never played 5setters.
But Rochus nowadays plays them very bad.
And his form has many questions. Loses to Martin, Naso and even Ginepri...
I put some money on Decoud from Barcelona FC :) |

| | Decoud came through two 3 setters in the qualifiers against Christophe Rochus and Alexandre Sidorenko. Rochus won a recent challenger in Zagreb before losing in the second round to Carlos Moya in Hamburg. He also lost second round to Robby Ginepri in Portschach. I quite like Rochus in some ways; He's quick, agile, good touch at the net and can hit some nice shots and is fancied to beat the Argentinian inside the distance. No prices yet though. |
