| | Karol Beck the former star who's career was tainted by a drugs ban defied his lead-up form on hardcourts to oust a 1135th ranked local yesterday though he lost 6 games. His record at this event has never been overly flash, and the improving Petzschner who beat Becker and took Haas to 4 sets here last year will be supremely confident of progressing. The big German outlasted in-form Stoppini in a 3rd set breaker in the first stage, and despite the occasional inconsistency, has the big weapons on serve and in his hefty groundstrokes to be able to dictate terms to the counter-punching Beck who has lost all confidence to compete at the top level. |

| | Petzschner is no mug on this surface. One could say he lacks a real weapon to compete in the ATP circus but if his serve finds the rythm he his hard to break. What i have in mind of him are his fighting abilities which keep him in the game and force unconcentrated opponents to errors. So I would leave this game alone and take a look how Petzschner finds into this match. |

| | Houli - to be honest I'd leave this alone. I was confident Serra would knock out Petzschner, but the German had a good serving day and as is typical of his style of game he was on the better side of flashy. He is inconsistent though, and Rochus is definitely going to play second fiddle here and trying to return the big serve and groundies as much as possible. He's super quick, has good variety including the drop shot and is a good counter-puncher, but I'd be concerned about his court position and his vulnerable serve though the Belgian has defeated Karlovic, El Aynaoui, Guccione, Bopanna, Moodie, Andreev and Verkerk in the past 12 months suggesting he likes this match up. Swerve if you ask me. |
