Roko Karanusic (CRO) d. Luis Horna (PER) 7-6(4) 6-3 6-1 at Wimbledon GS (GBR) - Grass, Round of 128 <<
Roko is a player i am loathed to bet on but is a far superior fast court player, winning a challenger on carpet earlier this year and is in the positive on grass, carpet and indoors. Importantly he was chosen as a singles players in Davis Cup against Britain on grass. Horna hasnt won on grass and appears to be another of the claycourters here for the first round losers cheque. Further, he hasnt won against a reasonable opponent on hard court for over 1 year. Good money at over $1.40

Roko Karanusic (CRO) d. Luis Horna (PER) 7-6(4) 6-3 6-1 at Wimbledon GS (GBR) - Grass, Round of 128 <<
Horna won the only previous battle on a US hardcourt but three years ago, and it's fair to say Karanusic has improved since that time whilst the PEruvian's career has plateaued. Karanusic still plays a fair bit of his tennis on the challenger circuit, but is prone to the occasional upset as Troicki, Kunitsyn and Berrer have discovered. His lead-up matches at Queens yielded a win over fellow dirtballer Cipolla, and he tested Djokovic to a second set tiebreak in Round 2 in a match that saw him trouble the Serb with some punishing groundstrokes but lack the consistency required. Luis Horna signalled his intentions for the grasscourt season deciding to play the post-RG Warsaw event on clay, a tournament which saw him lose first round to Canas then withdraw from a doubles encounter citing a calf injury. In five previous trips to the All England Club, Peru's number one player has been dropped in the first round on every occasion but the opposition (Ancic, Novak, Kucera, Gonzalez, Calleri) are higher quality in all fairness to the Croat. Karanusic, himself, has only won one match here at this event but has competed very well with the likes of Murray, Ferrero, Mahut and Pavel on this surface. Neither player is splendid on serve, but Roko has a little more power in his game and Horna tends to rely quite heavily on his forehand and could be quite exposed on the opposing wing. Karanusic is prone to high collects of unforced errors and is not the most technically perfect of groundstroke exponents, however he has been competitive at Grand Slam level against slicker opposition and will view this as a brilliant opportunity for an increased paycheck and a tilt at one of the more vulnerable seeds in Lopez.

Yes it is on clay :)
I have always thought that Horna was underated, his recent form has been very good and he did not give up at all against Monfils. Small to medium on Horna.

Guillermo Canas (ARG) d. Luis Horna (PER) 6-2 6-7(5) 6-4 at Warsaw ATP (POL) - Clay, Round of 32 <<
Canas' form has been nothing short of ridiculous in most recent times and faces plucky Peruvian Horna first up in his bid to end a long losing streak. He just hasn't been able to reproduce anything like his best tennis and was dumped out of the French Open by Odesnik in straight sets. Horna also lost first round to eventual semi-finalist Monfils. Canas, one of the claycourters that usually does pretty well on other surfaces has a decent record on grass where he is more than adept. He is an old school counter-puncher with great retrieving abilities who looks to frustrate his opponents. Horna, a journayman claycourter won't have his expectations set too high for this part of the calendar. He has a good first serve and a nice forehand and is quite quick on the move but you'd have to expect the more than capable former top 10 Argentine Canas to come through. I think Horna himself will not be expecting to win this one and the more I think about this match the more I like Canas. Canas 10/11 Horna 11/10.

Horna has the momentum, Canas is way too bad his year, but something prevents me for betting strongly here...Possible 3 sets and advantage for Horna

Canas looks totally useless on clay recently. He failed to record a good results on the red dirt this season so far and is on a six games losing streak. His match against Odesnik showed a player completely lost and out of sorts. Horna has some good results recently and he always plays with spirit and abmition especially against higher ranked opponents. The Peruvian has some solid baseline shots and knows how to attack and with his opponent in form trouble recently value is with Horna.

Well stated by bullet. I would also like to say that Monfils looked excellent chasing down every ball yesterday, he has the confidence to win this match and I believe he will.
