| | Johansson is still a threat to a player like Baghdatis but is suffering badly from allergy (yes - he is allergic to grass) and that is slowing him down more than his age imo. But I still see no value - look at Safins sudden spark... |

| | Baghdatis will dictate this match no worries. Johansson is no longer a threat to the likes of Baghdatis he's losing his court speed by the day, which for anyone who saw him at his peak will know it was his main strength. |

| | Baghdatis too strong on this surface for Thomas & will win in 3 or 4 sets. |

| | The only things that were unimpressive about Baghdatis in round one were he failed to close it out in three sets and a first serve percentage of 53% other than that he made Darcis look like a club player for most of the match. He won 83% behind his first serve an acceptable 56% behind his second and won 42% against the head. First class returns by any standards. Johansson clawed his way back from two sets down against journeyman Spadea. The Swede has been a splendid player over the years but his time is drawing to an end. Baghdatis won this match up a shade comfortably at the Aussie Open earlier in the year but I feel Johanssons form has deteriorated since then. I won't often say 1.2 is a good price but for me it is here. Straight forward assignments all the way to the last eight for the Cypriot. |

| | It's no surprise that the Cypriot leads the h2h 2-0 with a win in Grand Slams just this year at the AO where he was admittedly below par by his own lofty standards. After his 4-set win over Darcis, Baghdatis said he was relishing a return to the grass and happy with his whole game except the serve which "has room for improvement". He is referring to the fact that despite 9 aces and an 83% output for first serves, he only managed to land that initial delivery just over half the time, and also dished up 8 double faults outlining some concern on his second serve. Thomas Johansson, a veteran of 33 years of age, came from 2 sets down to oust fellow oldie Vince Spadea in an epic marathon that lasted 3 and a half hours. The Swede wasn't detered by losing the first two tiebreakers, and despite some wayward hitting from the baseline at times he managed to get the crucial break in the deciding set in a match that saw both players serve the same amount of aces, hit similar amount of unforced errors and produce similar percentages on serve. That long enduring match won't help the already-tiring legs of T-Jo who has definitely lost a lot of edge in the speed department, and given that his grass court record in recent years is utterly poor it would suggest not to get too carried away. After all, the consistent but harmless hitting of Spadea is nothing compared to the magical strokeplay of the tour's most naturally gifted player in Baghdatis, and it is definitely Marcos' to lose. T-Jo would need to have a day out on serve to even get close, but even then the lack of brute force is going to allow the Cypriot a swing at most and we all know how good a returner he is. Fitness and stamina is also on the side of the 10th seed should a distance match eventuate, so it's very hard to pinpoint an area where the Swede could nail Baghdatis given his lack of a net game. The only value lies with 3-0, but not sure anyone is too confident of going with that considering Baghy is prone to the occasional mental lapse in concentration during games where the intensity is not at it's highest. |

| | Agree, just no value here. Bagh can be so up and down i'd rather back him at better odds against a tougher opponent. TJ's got a decent serve so could cause a shock but i'm out of this one. |

| | Baghdatis was not too convincing in his last match against Steve Darcis but should beat Thomas Johansson with a bit more ease after the Swede needed to come back from 2 sets down to beat Vincent Spadea in Round 1. |

| | Spadea is definently worth a bet here. Hes already played alot of matches at Nottingham and came through the qualies and then would have enjoyed a break before wimbledon. Destoyer beleives Johansson has better experience in grass court tournaments but lets face it, you would not be jumping out of your skin to back Johansson. He has lack of match practice on grass and i beleive he wont accustomise to the grass at wimbledon as Spadea will as the american has played many matches on grass last week. |

| | Battle between two old-timers at the twilight of their career - Johansson was crushed by Berdych at Halle before getting lucky with retirements and disqualifications of opponents in Nottingham, while Spadea qualified in that same event and beat an unknown then found the class of Monfils too much after a close first set. The h2h reads 2-apieice, with the pair splitting the first two results in each of their home countries, then splitting another pair of matches both in Paris Masters 06 and 07 on the similarly quick carpet surface. On grass, the American veteran has always performed OK but can find overpowering opponents difficult to deal with (losses to Ljubicic, Verdasco, Gasquet, Rusedski, Nadal). T-Jo, like Spadea, has been bundled out first round in his past two SW19 attempts, however is a former semi-finallist and made two finals at Nottingham in mid-2000s. He has the superior serve no question, but is more erratic than Spadea who hits a lot of balls back, covers the court well, and hits with more margin for error over the net. The Swede's game tends to hinge on just how well he is serving, but has won 7 of his past 9 against Americans as well as 7 of his past 10 matches that have gone the distance. VInce has lost first round at Grand Slam level 10 of his 14 attempts which would do nothing to enhance his confidence, and with the possible likelihood of tiebreaks also faces a deficit in that department - he has won 79 and lost 88, with T-Jo an impressive 116-93 (4-19 vs 22-19 when narrowed to grass). There are more inspiring matches to punt on, but can't help but think Thomas is some decent value given all of his superior statistical pointers. |
