| | i backed verdasco here, anyone wathing the game or have any other information as to why neither player seem to be able to hold serve and why the consistency of verdasco is fluctating so much!? i gather its probably as case of far too many unforced errors but is chela actually playing any good?? |

| | Loking at their h2h one can see that except for back in 2004(which is a long time ago), Verdasco has 3-1 on Chela. This includes a victory in RG in 4 sets including a tiebreak win for Chela. The first round is not convincing from neither one of the players but Verdasco at least finished of with a 6-1 in fifth and looked to be finding his game. the spaniard beat Ferrer and Youzhny in Hamburg and seems to be in form. The hard hiting spaniard doesn´t suit Chelas game and I am pretty sure that Verdasco will hit through the argentinian defence. As thedestryer9 pointed out, a few days rest could be usefull. Not going for set betting allthough I think that Verdasco is through in straight sets! |

| | All bar their last meeting were played on the clay with the Argentine coming out on top 3-2 in that relevant series, including the most recent at Stuttgart last year. The Argentine has struggled for form and consistency this year, but showed great fighting spirit in the first round to come from two set deficit to beat big-serving Isner. Chela was probably lucky that the rain came when it did and that the American could convert only 3 of 20 break points, but was much steadier from the baseline producing a mere 21 unforced errors (to Isner's 81) in 5 sets of tennis. He also served at an impressive 77% of first balls in which he'll need to repeat if he is to quell the superior returning of the flashy Verdasco. The Spaniard also had his troubles first-up, he too taking 5 sets to see off comfortable dirtballer Ventura in a 3 and a half hour marathon. Verdasco made the most of his break opportunities in a baseline contest that was generally dictated by the Spaniard (who made 28 winners and 83 ue's vs Verdasco's 13 winners 59 ue's). It remains that Verdasco is mentally fragile and that you never know which Fernando will turn up on the day - at his best he'd have too much firepower and defensive prowess to beat Chela, but the Argentine has a strange knack of beating the inconsistent types who are prone to tennis-suicide. I think Chela will push this the whole way, but Verdasco may get the better of a longer match having the extra few days off. |

| | Chela came from 2 sets down to see off big serving American John Isner in the 1st round by staying consistent and letting his opponent put all the nails in his own coffin which he gladly obliged and finished with figures of 51 winners (Chela 16) but also a staggering 81 unforced errors (Chela 21). They were both wasteful on break points with Chela converting just 3/13 and Isner 3/20 which indicates it could have just as easily have been either one of them here. Verdasco was a 5 sets winner over Santiago Ventura in an error-strewn affair (Ventura 83) (Verdasco 59) and didn't look his usual self and finished second best on the winners count with just 13 compared to 28 from Ventura. Verdasco will be relieved to have came through that one and will be now be relishing taking on the Argentine who actually leads the H2H 3-1 on clay. Chela has been in good form of late and won each of his 3 matches last week in Dusseldorf against Tabara, Odesnik and Johansson. Verdasco was a beaten quarter-finalist recently in Hamburg where he ran into Roger Federer after beating Youzhny, Llodra and Ferrer all in straight sets and will also be feeling in good shape. Verdasco is rightly massive favourite to take this match because he has too many big guns to call on. Verdasco serves well and backs it up with that monstrous forehand and I'd expect Chela to have many problems getting to the majority of those and doing a lot of retrieving and running. The Spaniard is a lot quicker than his opponent too and has more variety and the result definetely lies firmly on his racquet. He can be absolutely brilliant at times but just lacks consistency but a win here looks like one to lend the house to. Chela 7/4 Verdasco 4/7. |

| | All agreed here on Verdasco as he is a leftie with attacking style and knows his clay. Chela is obviously out of form and he lost to Verdasco here in 2006. It looks like a good bet for high stakes here. |

| | Verdasco has shown some really good tennis as of late and Chela has been struggling to find his form. Both love the clay and this one could go the distance, but I am tempted to take my chances with the player who is in better form. |

| | Verdasco more potent attacking game, facing a Chela on a long downslide really. While Chela has been struggling with a stressful 3 day match with Isner, Verdasco has been having better luck and more prep time. Probably a close match but at this moment in time Verdasco looks the sharper and more primed to dispose of Chela eventually. |
