| | Marcos Daniel beat Ivan Navarro-Pastor less than two months ago on the clay in the Bogota challenger final and will be confident of beating the Spaniard again, this time on his home turf. The versatile Navarro, who often mixes steady baseline play with the occasional serve-volley, has been in awful form since making that final and then winning Meknes (in Mauritius), winning only one of his subsequent 5 matches all on the dirt and three of the four losses coming to players ranked 106 and lower. Daniel overcome groin and leg injury problems at the beginning of the year to claim 2 out 3 Challenger titles (including wins over Ramirez, Patience, Gil, Petzschner, Koellerer) and had a hot run in Houston where he upset both Troicki and Massu before eventual surprise winner Granollers-Pujol got the better of him. He has experience and form on his side, and has the claycourt craft to be able to outdo Navarro here again. He is now at a career-high ranking of 77 and is full of confidence, and has won 14 of his last 16 matches against players ranked below him. |

| | Definately. If Ferrer can wear down Kohlscreiber so relentlessly as he did then Navarro really should be a walkover. A little concerned about his serve but in this match he should be able to dictate take a stranglehold pretty early. |

| | A tough draw for Navarro-Pastor who has twice been a semi-finalist at this tournament including last year but after starting the clay season well with back to back challenger finals his form has tailed off a little and he has been beaten in his last three starts all at challenger level. A good mover with fair retrieval skills and an adequate serve but he does tend to struggle against the better players on tour. Ferrer had a career year last year making the Masters Cup Final and picking up three titles but just the one on clay. He started the year in good form at the Aussie Open but hasn't played his best tennis since then. Ferrer was a surprise first round casualty at this tournament last year but made the final the preceding year. His brisk movement and clean ball striking is ideal for this surface and he is one of the best defenders on tour. He doesn't have the biggest of serves and that does tend to be a weakness but the rest of his game certainly makes up for those shortcomings. There is little doubt Ferrer will take some stopping in this match. |

| | Ferrer may have been struggling with a bit of fatigue in recent times because defeats to the calibre of Lee and Johansson really just don't stack up against what we know Ferrer is capable of. He returned to his best in Davis Cup action this week by coming from behind to trounce Kohlschreiber indoors in Germany to lead Spain to a 3-0 unaseilable lead there. He returns to his home country of Spain in a tournament where he was runner up in 06. He was forced to withdraw after one set last year with injury. He has a formidable record on clay which is not surprising because he's one of the best movers on tour, has a decent serve and returns as well as anyone. He is ever-consistent off both sides, but also has the great ability to force the issue and move into the court to up the aggression just as easily. He has a huge engine, and Navarro Pastor will be no match. |

| | Well, David Ferrer is one of my favourite players on tour and he should beat Navarro-Pastor here. Ferrer is arguably the best returner in the game and will have too much in every department. Navarro-Pastor has a decent forehand and if he is to pressure Ferrer he will have to be firing and also take attack Ferrer's serve and take it early. Ferrer in straight sets. |

| | Horna had a great run in Mexico beating Fognini, Monaco and Calleri before running into Nalbandian. Navarro-Pastor has been in good form on the challenger circuit winning one and making the final of another both on clay. Both players are more than capable of winning this match, Navarro-Pastor has the edge in service power but Horna generates a little more zip off the ground, both are able movers and this could well turn into a baseline slog. |

| | Navarro-Pastor stopped a seven run losing streak against Serra in the first round but is unlikely to have any answers to the hard hitting Fish. The American has already beaten the likes of Robredo and Berdych this year and ran Djokovic close in the Hopman Cup final getting beaten in a final set breaker. A straight sets victory beckons for Fish. |

| | This should be a very one sided match. Local hope Fish, who has a good record on the US hardcourts, has a tremendous serve which the serve-volleyer Navarro PAstor is unlikely to enjoy too much. He will get limited opportunities, and one gets the feeling that Mardy will love the target provided to him at net. HIs groundstrokes are uniquely flat, but on his day he can be mightly viscious. He trounced the spaniard in the Wimbledon of 04, and I expect nothing to change here. |
