| | This is a really tough match to call for me. Daniel comes in here in possibly the form of his life - posting very impressive results on the challenger circuit - and barely dropped a point on his own serve in a comprehensive dismissal of Victor Troicki in round one. Massu dug deep to come back and beat Querrey in 3 sets, after throwing away the first from 5-2 up and then having to come back from a break down in the decider, this comes off the back of DC duty for Chile against Canada, and thus it might be speculated that Massu could be severely drained after that and yesterdays epic.................. One concern with regards to this matchup for Daniel is the relatively poor record that he has had of late over the better level geniune claycourters he has faced recently - losses to Starace, Cuevas, Roitman, and Puerta in recent times - however the recent 3 set loss to Starace isn't such a bad formline, given that I think the Italian is playing decent stuff this year.............Whilst Massu is undoubtidly the classier of the two, in terms of form I get the feeling that these two are moving in vastly different directions, with Daniel firmly in the acendency...... So with the potential Massu weariness combined with Daniels solid form and being slightly fresher - he played two DC matches in Brazil but won both relatively comprehensively and won in straight sets yesterday - I'm taking the brazilian to win this - possibly in 2. |
