I couldn't believe it. If he still has this fighting-spirit or not, i don't know. But i just can't find any reasons not to pick him as a winner here. |

We finally saw all of the talent coming together, sticking firm when the pressure became hot and serving out sets and matches at first opportunity. Wins over Robredo, Gonzalez, Roddick and del Potro is as good as it gets particularly for a player touted as one of the weakest mentally, and he'll have to pull some confidence from that. The Czech also now finds himself within striking distance of a big finish to the year that could see a top 10 finish or a spot in the final 8 for the coveted end of year event, and he has performed admirably here in the past - wins over the A-Rod and Rafa in 06 before crashing in the semis, then last year failed in a third-set breaker to an on-fire Nalbandian who barely lost a single match around that time. Schuettler really has revived his year but the veteran German faces a tough task here having not won a match here in three previous attempts. Indoors he hasn't enjoyed the best of times either, just over 50% including lots of lower level and challenger events and losses to similarly heavy hitting types such as Soderling, Petzschner, Lopez, Gabashvili, Safin and Pavel. The extra pace should favour Berdych as Rainer won't have as much time on his groundstrokes which he craves, and although the serve percentage and placement is generally of a good quality it's nowhere near as powerful with pace and spin to deter the aggressive Berd man. Schuettler is definitely a chance if he can maintain good length on his groundstrokes and be patient in waiting for a short ball or an unforced error, but in my opinion an "I believe" Tomas Berdych is going to have too much weight of shot and earn too many cheap points on serve for the old boy to deal with on such a high stage. |
