This is a match where i had to double check the price i was seeing.. I cannot believe that Ginepri is favourite in this match. Llodra should be slight fave in my opinion, his serve can be unreturnable at times on this terrain. ML's form is not great but as long as he is fit i think he should win this.

If he was fully fit and motivated I would go for Llodra but he is not fit, probably just here for the doubles, facing a Bobby who has done very well in qualifying, and French.

Two solid players here, but Ginepri I think is the one to take here. He's had a pretty solid career in Madrid and beat two very capable players in Tipsarevic & Schwank in qualifying. Ginepri's serve looked crisp in those two matches with 19 combined aces. In Madrid, Ginepri has found things to his liking until he meets the top seed. He's lost to the #1 seed in this tournament in each of the last three years (R32, Quarters,Semis). Llodra is certainly capable of winning this as evidenced by a tournament win on the indoor surface in Rotterdam this Spring. However, his last match was a poor display in Russia where he lost in the 1st round to a qualifier. Llodra also boasts no experience on the Madrid court whereas Ginepri has been playing here for years and already has the two qualifying matches under his belt. Could be alot of big serves here, but I think Ginepri stands tall and gets through by verge of a slightly better return game.

agree with the unpredictability, but i have a lot more faith in robby than i do in michael...ginepri is 8-2 in his last 10 here in Madrid and will outclass the unsteady llodra, who has exactly one win in his last 10 master's matches (and that on clay)

I expect a tight match with Ginepri being the eventual winner. I expect at least one tiebreak.

Don't look too much into Llodra's result against Istomin in Moscow because he dominated most of the match and squandered too many break points which would have broken the back of the Ukranian. He is a formidable force on the indoor circuit because he has such a tricky serve to return and is probably one of the more skillful volleyers on tour. My only concern here would be Ginepri being able to bunt the ball back more regularly than the Frenchman would hope, then having the accuracy and depth on his groundstrokes to push the big man wide where he is very susceptible both on the move and having to play consecutive topspin shots from the back. His TMS record is also quite attrocious, just 1 win from his last 10 starts which was a defeat of an out-of-form Canas in Hamburg and even then he saved set points in the first. Ginepri, on the other hand, seems to spring the odd upset at this level and actually more struggles at lower level probably because is not one of the biggest self-motivators going around. Last year here he beat Melzer and tested Federer for a good set and a half, has beaten Mathieu, Ferrer, Robredo, Safin, Tursunov, Ancic and Davydenko on the terrain and qualified over the ever-dangerous Tipsarevic and the improving Schwank. The serve-volleying opponent also doesn't seem to phase him and it appears the American enjoys the target - he's defeated Delic, Bjorkman, Ancic and lost out only narrowly to Stepanek and Zverev this year. Robby can be lazy, and the serve can really let him down at times, but if he's switched on and able to churn up some early opportunities on the seemingly ailing Llodra serve then he could be in with a good chance. His superior movement, variety from the back of the court and less reliance on one weapon would see him as a big value play particularly on the back of some recent disappointments for the doubles speciallist.
