Login to give Aces | | Dementieva quickly forgot about the Olympics and the Closing Ceremony putting her rusty first-up peformance behind her in crushing the talented Pauline Parmentier in just 58 minutes. The Beijing gold medallist made just 19 unforced errors, won 77% behind her first serve and crushed the Frechwoman's second ball winning 83% of those points though post-match she did mention that "you have to find a way to win...the most important thing is to stay positive in the difficult moments in the match even when you feel tired." Whether this is just forecasting her best is yet to come or the fact she really is fatigued Jankovic-style remains to be seen, but she's only playing Anne Keothavong. The top Brit ousted the wily Italian Schiavone in a 2 and a half hour marathon that consisted of fairly poor serving and extended baseline rallies with no player willing to go on the attack at the important stages. Keo won 67% and 46% behind her first and second serves respectively, but she can expect that will be challenged here by Dementieva who in comparison to Francesca hits the ball with a lot more conviction and is ten times more aggressive. She is confident, in-form and has the serve working up to scratch, and it really is hard to see the inexperience of Keothavong really challenging the Russian unless she's dead on her feet. Login to give Aces | | First of all well done to Anne for reaching the 3rd round, fantastic achievement which I hope will boost girls tennis in GB. Schiavone arguably is the worst top 30 WTA player at present so that result will not have much bearing against Dementieva. Elena on an obvious high after her Olympic gold and defeats of Wozniacki, Serena, Zvonareva and Safina should be a class above Keothavong and continue her fine run. Anne has had an excellent year winning 2 events and moving into the top 100 for the 1st time. This has been down to winning lower level matches and competition against high level WTA players has been minimal. Finally I got Elena @17 to win the US Open and with the draw she has, will not let me down!! |

Login to give Aces | | Anne has acquitted herself very well this week beating Glatch and Schiavone. She's got a very shining personality, very likeable girl. Made me a nice few quid against Schiavone actually. Unfortuntely for her this is where it ends. Dementieva is on a high after the past month or so and it's dificult to see anything but a straight sets win here for the slim Russian beauty. Dementieva has all the power and speed, bit much for Keothavong. Well done Anne anyway. |
