Since end of clay season Andreev remain in good form. He made third rounds in Toronto(lost to Nadal), Cincinnati and Beijing(lost to Nadal). In New Heaven Andreev lost to Cilic in Quarter Final. In first round of US Open he easily won in straight sets against Gicquel. Andreev had 19 aces and only one Double Fault. He won 77% on first and 56% on second serve. Gicquel had only two break point opportunities, unfortunately he converted both. But Russian brooke Gicquel serve 4 times from 14 and was able to win in straight sets. If Andreev beat Chardy this will be his biggest achievement in US Open.
Chardy after nice run in French Open show nothing more on ATP level. He stayed longer in Europe, only experience on hard(in this part of season) was on challenger in Spain(Segovia, lost in quarter final to serve

The Chard-man is taking this one. He's going to jump on Andreev early and hold on (barely) for the win.

chardy is inconsistent, but I cant forget his fantastic run on RG. he was playing some brutal tennis, hitting winners all over the court. andreev is mentaly one of the weakest player on tour.

Andreev has grown on me alot this year, he has shown to be a very consistent player and one you can rely on to give his all. His heavy groundstrokes and big serve should be too much for the challenger.

The only thing that would be Andreev at dis ease if his mind is wondering off for the doubles match. But I think he focuses in this one.

Jeremy Chardy took care of his consistent Grand Slam rival Frederico Gil in R1 beating the Portugese claycourter in 4 sets and is obviously over the injury worries that hampered him in Turkey just a fortnight prior to this event. The erratic Frenchman produced 11 aces and won 70% and 67% off the first and second balls respectively, a stat he'll need to maintain if not better if he is to match it with Andreev. The Russian avoided what appeared to be a first-up danger game against Gicquel, holding sway on serve throughout and executing 19 aces and winning 77% of first ball points along the way. He has become a model of consistency and has never looked in better shape, Andreev is looking at finishing the year off very strongly and will enter the top 20 for the very first time if he wins this match and possibly one more. He is the perfect match up for Chardy - Jeremy loves going for his shots, is ultra aggressive and sometimes lacks the poise with his decision-making, while Igor has all those attributes but is a lot more consistent off the ground and works his opponents around before going for the killer blow. There's no questioning that he has the big-time experience over his opponent, and he is likely to test the youngster with some seething topspin angles off his big forehand weapon. Over the 5-set journey you'd really favour Igor who is as fit as they come, and he is seeking his 7th consecutive win over a Frenchman but only his third Round 3 appearance at a Grand Slam in the past couple of years.

Battle of the clay courters here and Chardy probably wishes he could play Gil in every 1st round Grand Slam. Chardy currently around his highest ranking ever 75 ATP has had a good year especially on the clay with a last 16 at the French and several quarter final places in other events. Andreev even though a good clay court player, does offer far more on the hard court and has overcome the likes of Monfils, Berdych, Stepanek, Isner and Hanescu on the hard in recent months. Very improtant to mention that he gave Nadal a good battle on hard so can mix it with the best clay court player in the world. Chardy has a small chance but seeing him pushed hard by Bogdanovic and losing to Lorenzi(211 ATP) and retiring against Petrazzuolo(306 ATP)2 weeks ago when 6-0 2-0 down on the hard court suggests Andreev should have far too much for the French man. Roll on AO Chardy and hope for Gil again!!

I will go with Andreev here.Starting to look more an more comfortable on hard courts an he will fancy his chances against Chardy. The Frenchman has a top class serve but that won`t bother Igor to much with him defeating this year some other guys on tour with a similar serve to Chardy (Monflis,Andersson,Llodra,Querrey an Isner) Andreev forehand will also test Chardy backhand side alot with the topspin he generates.Chardy has a good aggressive game for hard courts but Andreev all round game is alot better espically his movement an energy,an will be more than enough to defeat Chardy

I backed against Igor in the first round, but I won't be making the same mistake again. He should cruise through this one.
