Sequera leads the h2h but that match was on clay her favoured surface and probably the least for Bondarenko. Having said that, the Venezuelan a month ago won an ITF title on this terrain but the class of opposition was quite poor in comparison and she did endure 3 tough matches out of the 5 she won. Bondarenko has far more weaponry to use and is often aggressive from the back of the court, so Sequera will adopt her usual strategy of standing well behind the baseline and retrieving as many balls as possible in the hope of drawing the Ukranian into errors. She does have some variety with some useful drop shots, tricky slices and a good forecourt game, but on this surface against the quality of opposition it doesn't cut the mustard. Not to mention her serve is a big liability as you can tell by her 49.5% hold rate with the TI model. Bondarenko hasn't played since Wimbledon but that shouldn't phase her here, after all the players to have topped her on hardcourts in 08 are the big girls in Sharapova (3 sets), Dementieva and Wozniacki.

Sequera rolls into this match fresh off an ITF hard court title under her belt. Bondarenko comes into this match completely unprepared with her last matches coming from the grass at Wimbledon. I am not certain, but I have to guess that she is focused on doubles with her sister, which may decrease the value of singles to her. Throw in value that cannot be passed up IMO, and top it off with Sequera knowing she can beat her, and a good enough possibility of an upset for me.

Sequera will find it hard to keep the pace of Bondarenko here. The Ukrainian girl has had a great year and will be hoping to have a good time of things here. She should face little trouble here against the limited Venezualian who in all honesty will have little expectation herself.

I think nothing of Sequera's ability against a decent player even on her preferred clay. On a hard court though Bondarenko should make short work of her with a bit of consistent depth she will get short returns off Sequera, and off the south american's non serve she should be able to lash back a few winners on hard.
