Pennetta pummeled Kanepi's serve when the pair met in Indian Wells earlier in the year, but there is always something about a minnow country such as Estonia in the Olympic Games. Kanepi has loads of talent but struggles to put things together on the day, though she has showed with pop-up results such as wins over Chakvetadze, Medina, Schnyder, A Bondarenko and Cibulkova that she is more than capable of overpowering her opponents on any given day. Pennetta has played a lot of matches recently having made the Palermo semis and the LA final, but her last match was a shock loss to child sensation Larcher de Brito in a tournament where her serve was broken 9 times in 2 matches. That is always the issue with the Italian who is so steady in every other aspect, the problem being her travels on serve often dictate her body language and her consistency off the ground. Kanepi showed her at last year's Aus Open that she is more than a suitable match-up, and with Estonian having little representation at these Games she will be looking to give it her all and could well bob her head at surprisingly big odds.

Yeah I think that's a bit ridiculous myself. I watched both the Acapulco and Indian Wells matches in full, and Pennetta made Kanepi look about 5 classes below. There is a danger with Kanepi that she could hit through Pennetta on a good day like she did Schnyder, as Pennetta, while technically suited to hard courts with her accuracy for finding the lines, is vulnerable to a power display. I don't fancy the odds either, they should be tighter.

I disagree totally here with you. Kanepi has had a good year yeah but so has Pennetta. Pennetta is a better player in most aspects. Odds won't see any of my money but I do expect her to win.

I`am very confident that Kaia will winn this match. I think Kaia chances are 80% certainly. If she plays like in Wimbledon then Penneta just dont even have a chance...

Tip: The difference in Match Rating between two players represents the average number of service games that separate them in a set of tennis as predicted by the Insight Model. Lower Rating Handle values indicate that the predicted rating is more speculative and that the player’s ‘true’ form may be significantly different from the models statistical prediction.
