It's hard to see how Craybas will be able to make Schnyder work here - the Swiss does everything that Jill does but better and with loads more variety. Patty has the bigger serve, heavier groundstrokes, more spin and angles at her disposal and is also a lefty. Craybas' serve is a massive liability to her and is often broken about twice per set, something the crafty Schnyder is unlikely to let her get away with. The Swiss will look to pounce on the short balls that Craybas can often dish up as a result of a passive outlook to her matches, and it takes a player of superior firepower to usually knock off the veteran. The result was in Patty's favour two years ago on this very surface in Craybas' back yard, and it's hard to see that changing here where the 13th seed smells a big chance after the withdrawal of Ivanovic.

Schnyders never to be trusted as a big favorite.

Schnyder put up at least a fighting performance against Safina recently, and if she maintains the same kind of form, she should be able to beat craybas without too much diffculty

Craybas has nothing except what experience has brought her. She hasn't the physical attributes to be able to dominate Schnyder. It's probably a case that Craybas will view these Olympics as the icing on the cake of her career, in participation alone. Schnyder is still very fit and should deal with the humidity much deeper into what is bound to be a baseline intensive match. Schnyder should get the better of most of those rallies though.

I'm going to side with the craft of the vetaran Swiss over the veteran American. Schnyder has beaten Jill before in her home country and she is unlikely to find any joy again in my opinion. Schnyder has an awkward game for some players to cope with as she is great at creating seemingly impossible angles and playing crafty spins. She loves the hardcourts and will no doubt be looking ahead to later in the draw.

Tip: The difference in Match Rating between two players represents the average number of service games that separate them in a set of tennis as predicted by the Insight Model. Lower Rating Handle values indicate that the predicted rating is more speculative and that the player’s ‘true’ form may be significantly different from the models statistical prediction.
