Melzer is a better player than Daniel. Daniel hasn't played on the hard courts this year either so I hope he'll be a bit rusty.

Melzer should get through this. Better player inside the baseline than Daniel who is just a counter puncher. Melzer is not a great, but any hardcourt ability whatsoever should be enough to win this. If these Olympics have proved a thing so far it's that passive tennis doesn't work. Murray is being totally dominated at a set and a break down by Lu because, wether he goes on to win or not. Nadal struggled against Starace for a period and only sorted that out by ending points with some short angles further into the court. Melzer has a bit more ability to do this, and on his day he can look powerful. I think of a match on clay this season when he had to do this against Tsonga to avoid being walked over, and it worked. Although he's not a favourite of mine he should get through Daniel.

I'd expect Daniel to struggle something terrible here against the Austrian left-hander. Melzer is a good hardcourt player who serves well (second serve could do with a bit of work though) and has some powerful shots up his sleeve. Daniel plays the vast majority of his Tennis on the claycourts where he has more time and gets more balls back, which he will not be able to do as much here which will give Melzer too many easy short balls. Melzer has started to whip his backhand crosscourt more recently, rather than the usual slice aswell and I'd expect a straight sets victory here.

Daniel is a clay player....his results in hard are ridiculous......and in the same hard´s that melzer found your better game....
