Well Japan and China is like England and France. Except England was involved in the liberation of France in WWII, but still you wouldn't expect the Brits to support a French player would you? Japan invaded China in 1936, or thereabouts. Plus i would imagine that majority of the crowd would be non-Chinese anyway. Anyhow, I'm sure there would be a lot of Japanese visitors supporting Nishikori, but this should not be a basis of selection. Look at favourite Ai Sugiyama yesterday who lost her match! IMO Nishikori went down in playing performances in recent months which includes 3 injuries in his last four tournaments. Nothing special. Rainer had few good wins leading up to, and including Wimbledon by claiming few big scalps here. Rainer, at age of 32, will probably retire after the prividledge of playing for his country in the Olympics, and surely will give his 110% to not disappoint his supporters. Rainer Schuettler for me. As always, good luck :)....

actually i prefer "jhina"...has a much more appealing ring to it.

on a serious note, china and japan hate each other. Kei has the skills to win, thus he'll earn my money based on his health (good) - see earlier post.

lol carson =p. Everyone who thinks nishikori will win here please base your judgement on his talent because he will get no support here. Chinese have an inbuilt hatred of Japanese people, it comes with rape/slaughter of their ancestors =p.

I disagree lilboi, I think the Chinese will back the Japs here. Actually the two countries are in the beginning stages of uniting. Discussions are currently at an early stage but when it happens they are to be named Chapan.

phil mate, its fine to pick nishikori but please don't say asian fans will be behind him. I can guarantee you that NO chinese in the stadium will be cheering the jap. Only person cheering him on will be his family and friends. EVERYONE else will be going for the german or anyone else that plays against any jap.

The asian fans will be right behind Nishikori and dont think that Schuttler can play as good as he did in wimbledon.

Kei is really value here, but one important think is his health, if he is ok, he go for an easier win, the otherwise he win a first set and then will be end :(... i play kei in hcp +3,5 in 1.8..for me it´s a safety bet

 My selection:K.Nishikori 13/8 (William Hill)

Nishkori is great value i believe against somebody apart from is great Wimbledon run as played most of is tennis at challenger level. There is no doubt Schuettler has the experince on is side an will be confident after is Wimbledon run beating some good players along the way (Blake,Tipsarevic) but Nishikori has the weapons to hurt the german in this match up.This has been a great year for Kei an he as showed is all court game winning Delray beach (Hard) bt (Blake),Won Bermuda on (Clay) bt (Troicki),an reached the 3rd round at Queens (Grass) lost to Nadal.Nadal praised Nishikori tennis after there match saying "He as the game to reach the top 5"

Nishikori underdog? Holy we are getting some beautiful chances here indeed lol Kei entered the Delray Beach tournament as a qualifier ranked 244. He gained entrance to the main draw by defeating Nicolas Todero and Alex Bogomolov Jr. In the first round, he defeated Florian Mayer due to a retirement in the second set. In the second round, Nishikori defeated Amer Delic, another qualifier. In the quarterfinals he won against Bobby Reynolds. In the semis he upset Sam Querrey. In the final, Nishikori upset number one seed James Blake in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to become the first Japanese man in nearly 16 years to win an ATP event. On 30 June 2008, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced Nishikori would be given one of six Men's Singles ITF wildcard places into the 2008 Beijing Olympics. However, i feel some players will not give us they’re best tennis at the Olympics because they may save themselves for the Us Open, so we must be careful, but lets say Nishikori is too close to home too just drop this away lololol

Having made one previous post on this forum, and regarding this player, this will either put me in good stead or expose me for the fool I am. This is the moment I have been waiting sometime for. After two months’ injury Nishikori is back. This will be my biggest bet of 2008. Good luck.

I rate this as a very good bet . I am on for £220 at 7-4 on Bet 365, the most they would let me on for…..The Betfair market is weak at moment and I think these odds will move in.

look forward to seeing the odds here. Probably Kei for me. Reports out of Bollettieri compounds are that Kei has fully recovered from the abdominal injury which has slowed him down over recent months. Nishikori has all of the skills to be a giant killer on tour, and Schuettler will have all he can handle in this match....not to mention the pressure and distraction of how he got into this tourney to begin with (big legal battle with ITF and CAS as to his eligibility based on ranking before wimbledon).

Hopefully the odds will be generous for the generally unknown Nishi.
