Just by watching Fed's first service game I can tell he has been working big time on that forehand. Back to it's best early on, hit a couple of beautiful ones.

Federer celebrated his 27th birthday with one of the ultimate dreams baring the Swiss flag for his nation. He has declared his love for the Olympics games and his satisfaction that it is no longer open to lower-ranked players to juice up their pockets. Instead, the best names are with us, and they don't come bigger than him. Tursunov has been in some fine form this summer beating the likes of Gasquet, Safin, Lopez, Blake and Mahut but he is outgunned in most areas by the number one. Federer has the edge in all departments including a 2-0 h2h, and you get the feeling all the hard work put in on the Beijing practise courts should come into fruition - as long as he can eradicate those forehand shanks and start, mentally, with a clean slate he'll get the better of the one-dimensional master blaster.

federer has probably got one of the trickiest opponents in the first round in tursonov, however this is federer we are talking about and he always performs at this level - his main objectives for the rest of the season is the olympics and then the US open - his motivation levels should be at an all time high considering what has happened to him just lately and should progress.

Having lost a fortune on federer in the past few weeks, I am adopting a wait and see approach in this tournanment. I can see no value in backing him at the moment, and can understand those having a small punt on Tursunov. (Unfortunately, the day after Wimbledon, I foolishly spent a fortune backing him at 11/10 for the U.S. Open. Now you can get him at 9/4!)

 My selection:R.Federer 2-0 sets 4/9 (will hills)

Federer will get back to winning ways after some surprise defeats to (Simon an Karlovic).Tursunov has a strong forehand an serve but one would feel Federer will play the same way Murray did by mixing it up alot making Tursunov create is own power which he wont like an will draw errors

Federer happy with the draw? He would be unhappy whoever he faces at the moment lol. Fedex should take 6 months off really. Stop competing, just training. One of the few ways he can get back to the top level tennis he use to play. Journalists say he is becoming more intolerant than usual which is logical. Tursunov as we all know is an offensive baseliner with excellent groundstrokes from both sides and prefers to play on faster surfaces and this is a perfect chance to defeat the worlds best has been player at the moment. Another thing is that Russians play excellent tennis when teamed up. Both Tursunov and Igor Andreev are very motivated and they will be even more when Dmitry beats Roger. Russia can win a gold medal

bolabee I naswered ya on another thread. Dimarco, Federer can provide plenty of EUs himself if his level hasn't improved massively from the last few tournaments. UEs were what has plagued his year, rarely being outplayed by anyone legitimately.

Fed has always wanted to make history, and winning a gold medal at the Olympics would help in his motivation. I agree with some of the postings where we will see the Federer of old return here.

i believe roger will try to prove the critics wrong as his time has come and gone. I can not see roger being put out early in 3 straight tournaments. Although I could not see it in 2 straight either.

I agree with Ryan here except the part where he says Tursunov has the weapons to hurt Fed. This is Roger's time of the year simple as that.

Fed is yet to get going after is epic defeat at Wimbledon early exits have followed at Toronto (Simon) an Cincinnati (Karlovic) but one would feel he was already focused on the Olympics an the US Open considering he has said "I`ve planned my season around the Olympics an the Open".Tursnov has got the weapons to hurt Fed but i doubt he will do it consistent enough.Tursunov reached the final at Indianapolis (Lost to inform Simon) an had okay runs at Toronto an Cincinnati reaching the 3rd round both occasions.I think Fed will play a similar game to how Andy played against Tursunov keep mixing it up,making the Russian think alot which in my opinion will draw the errors because Tursunov really only as one game plan to hit the ball as hard as possible.Could be a close first set but i dont really see many probslems for Fed who also must be verry happy with is draw!!

Tursunov will be the one to feel the vengence for fedexs recent losses. Murray showed that Tursunov does not like to play the extra ball, and with Federers returning skills, Tursunov will be forced into errors
