Roddick can win this tournament, I think he realized he needs this victory to get back mentally and physically. I think his motivation will be decisive.

Roddick entered this even with the aim of winning along with getting in some vital match practise before the US Open. He hasn't looked as sharp as he would have liked up to now but hasn't faced any real challenge of yet. He isn't quite on with his serve but will no doubt be expecting a step up on as the tournament progresses. He has met Gicquel once before defeating hom in straight sets at the 2007 Australian Open. I'll jump on the Roddick bandwagon and very confidently predict a straight sets win in front of the adoring home fans.

If Guccione can be 2-0 (both straight sets as well) against Gicquel, than I'm sure Andy Roddick can be the same. Roddick is skipping the Olympics to get prepared for the US Open, and winning this week and in Washington are in his current plans. Gicquel isn't going to be able to stop him, but there may be danger ahead.

Roddick has showed nothing for us to back him with ease. Although his last 2 loses are to top 40 players and gicquel falls into that category. Yet gicquel is just 1-8 this year against top 25 players. I have faith in roddick and I would believe he thinks he actually has a legitimate chance to win this so I think he will come out strong and try to win this thing.

If anyone follows my picks, he is very likely to notice that i never really go for certainties and low odds but this game i will pick because it may not be that easy for Andy at all. I see him as likely winner here though, but if he meets Marat Safin, he will lose

Gicquel is certainly worth a shot here, and where the value is imo. I do not think Roddick is worthy of these odds, indicating a win rate of 80% +. Roddick is far from 'in form' and Gicquel will certainly challenge him here. I'm liking +4.5 games as well. As I've mentioned many times in the past, Roddick is not an elite player, is not worthy of the odds afforded to him, and is vulnerable to any player with baseline consistency.

Roddick is certainly not a 1/5 on shot to nail Gicquel, considering he did not play convincingly against Vemic. You would have to hope he will improve from that performance because Marc does have quite a good game,if not any weapons to threaten Andy.I think this match will be far tighter than expected and may go to close 3rd set, with Andy just getting it.

Although on the face of it Roddick's 6-2 6-2 win over Dusan Vemic looked comfortable, I believe that the scoreline was somewhat deceptive. Vemic got to 15-30 numerous times on the Roddick serve, and also had 0-40 in the first set (only to see all the bps saved). Andy also served a fair few double faults, and really struggled with his 2nd serve (especially early on in both sets). The fact that he was threatened on serve by a player as poor as Vemic is slightly concerning, and as such I think a small bet on the vastly superior Gicquel is in order.

I don't think Andy is anywhere near 100%.

Roddick, where have you been? The US Open is coming up man. You need to win this one. You have already beaten Gicquel before. Do it again. This is your shot at winning some easy one while all your competition is in Beijing for the Olympics. You got this, you know you do.
