Llodra, as stated is in dire form and will have to give a fantastic serving display to keep up with Richard. Gasquet also has a great serve and a vast amount of skills to call upon. Can't mess with sets but Gasquet to get the job done. |

He is a formidable doubles player (much success with Clement over the years), but before the first two months of 2008 had struggled on the singles circuit where his less-than-ideal movement and lack of rounded firepower off the ground is exposed. He is on a 5-match losing streak on hard courts (l. to Melzer, Lee, Anderson, Davy, Monaco) and has never won a first round match here in more than a handful of attempts. Gasquet, the more glorified and top-ranked countryman, has recovered from both on and off field disappointments in the clay swing to string together some consistency which included a Stuttgart finals appearance on the dirt just over a week ago. The classy but sometimes lazy Frenchman boasts a very good 15-5 record on this terrain since September last year, and in 2006 beat the likes of Blake, Berdych and Murray en route to a finals appearance where it took the magic of Federer to come from a one-set deficit to defeat the youngster. Gasquet has a big serve, a formidable forehand and of the more stylish single-handed backhands in the game - his movement is swift, his touch at the net sublime and ability to turn defense into attack wonderful. His only blights can be his mental capacity and some complacent work ethic, but given his recent momentum and his winning records over fellow serve-volleyers such as Karlovic (1-0), Ancic (2-1), Hanescu (2-0) and Mahut (2-0) as well as several other series leads against some of the bigger servers (albeit baselinerS) would suggest Richard has the prowess on return to cause the world of troubles for his out-of-form and less-than-100%-fit Davis Cup teammate. |
