Not been impressed at all lately with Moya and this is quite clearly haas's favourite surface. Haas to win

Not having played each other since 2002, this battle of the veterans (32 vs 30 y.o) will be interesting and by no means a foregone conclusion. Both players have learned, matured and developed the tools to keep up with the best at atp level even today, after reaching their career high singles rankings of 1 & 2 respectively, back around the 24 years of age.
Having said that, all signs and form point to a convincing Tommy Haas win. Plenty of appearances this year has Moya's ranking up to 28 (vs 46 for T.H.) But his poor form in the last 3 tournaments (which happen to be his favoured clay court) suggest he's tiring out a bit this season. His serve suffered and he lost 3 of the 4 matches to much lesser ranked opponents. And switching to a fast hardcourt for this match after spending so much time on the clay isn't going to do the spaniard any favours either.
Haas on the other hand is fairly fresh after taking some time out to recover from his shoulder injury in april & may. He's come back strong with 5 wins in 8 matches including victories over Stepanek, Canas and Robredo on fast Grass courts. Then last week the German started on his hardcourt form at Indianapolis with a couple of wins and going toe to toe (Lost after being up a set and a break) against a younger, faster and higher ranked rival and eventual tournament champion Gilles Simon who is in great form. Couple this with the fact that Haas's most recent atp tournament wins in the last 4 years have all been in american hardcourts, and it's hard to see Moya outplaying Haas in his first match back on a hard surface. Haas will still have to keep his first serve percentage up, but if he does he should win in straight sets with a break in each.

I think the odds for T.H. in straight sets were around the 1.90 not bad.

I get the feeling this is could be Moya's last year on tour, his desire to grind out results seems to have gone completely. I think that lack of desire and Haas' love of hard courts should the German to victory.

Only one winner...and that will be Haas. It can be 50-50 when Moya finds his serve.

Moya is in a terrible state of form in the last few months and he showed just that last week in Umag. Haas is playing on his favorite surface and he will demolish Moya.

watched moya vs troicki.. although moya was the eventual victor he had massive trouble early on holding serve, and that was on clay. he was able to do ok on return, here on hard court i dont think he'll have the same ability. haas for me as its his more preferred surface.

To watch Haas serve play against a good Simon from the 2nd set on was pretty painfull. His first serve dropped below the 50 % for sure, a figure that should ring the alarm bells to lower the stakes for the upcoming match. I hope he will be able to correct this rate (that was not very convincing in the whole tournament in Indy) here otherwise even Moya with his forehand could cause trouble. The latter had also "problems" on 1st serve - on clay . His 2nd serve was not competitive at all, so he lost many cheap points. Haas has all weapons to dominate Moya but his last performances looked not very trustworthy and you always can doubt he is willing to go the limits if he is forced to. At odds around 1.4 its debatable wether it makes reals sense taking a bet with him

all has been said I will add that I had opportunity to watch Moya (and my losing bet) Vs Fognini as well as vs Troicki) simple factor he cant serve anywhere near to standard (about 36% first serve=wta) so here adding factor that he didnt practise on hard and Haas did and was leading as it urned out to final winner Simon after good play it is a sure one IMO

Always some favourites fail, but I believe that if we go deep insight in given match we will be able to predict which favourite propably spoil his match and which favourite almost for sure not spoil.

Umag is one of the most favorite or maybe even the favorite tournament of Carlos Moya so i doubt he would not put his best effort in Umag....Moya still has it but is out of shape at the moment so yes, Haas should prevail.....Of course all the favorites wont win tonight, but all the favorites are just paper favorites however so i guess some huge upset cant even take place

again, everyone with the favourite. I rated Moya's game, till he got thrashed by Fognini. Maybe he wanted more time to prepare for here? Haas had the game won till he collapsed to Simon. I just don't believe that all these favourites will get up tonight. I think there will be a few upsets and this could be one of them, but i won't be betting on it

Despite witnessing a total Haas capitulation against Gilles Simon a few days ago, I'm confident of him beating Moya here. Tommy was given a point deduction for smashing his racquet before screaming foul language at the top of his voice. He was a set and a break up and seemingly cruising to victory before everything fell apart. Moya was tamely beaten by Fognini in Umag last week and basically has had a year to forget. Haas' injury problems seem for now to have cleared up and he should be too energetic for the out of form former World No.1.

This is an intriguing match however Haas has North American hard court practice whereas a stuttering Moya doesn't so Haas to edge it.

Moya is 1-8 against top 50 players this year, to emphasise his fall from grace. Wasn't good in Umag, while Haas let slip an opportunity to beat Simon, who went undefeated in Indianapolis. Haas has the more potent game, and is more suited to hard courts.

Doubled him with Ancic, who should beat Dancevic.

Haas has the better hard court game, and he seems to be coming into form at the right time.

Moya is attending 8. time in the tournament, twice reaching to 3. round. Last year he lost to Baghdatis in straight sets on the first round. Haas has been two times in the semis on his eight previous visits to Toronto. Last year he lost in 3.round to Stepanek in 3 sets. Haas got his feet on surface in Indianapolis beating lefty Levine and big serving Isner before losing to in-form Simon in 3 sets. Moya played in Umag and battled his way through Troicki, then losing to Fognini 2.round in straight sets. They have played 10 times before, h2h 5-5, so one would presume they know each others games fairly well. Haas is allready warmed up for US hardcourt season, Moya hasn´t played on the surface for nearly 4 months.
