Personal thoughts: This reminds me very much of Davydenko... Poland... July 2007... In a few minutes of time the odds went from 1.01 to around 6 for Gulbis. A good player as Gulbis is, just doesn't choke in this way. As far as I know, he's never done it before.

Gulbis is an absoloute joke. That has to be the biggest choke I have seen since in a while. Then again Gasquet at Wimbledon was pretty bad as well.

everyone tipped gulbis except me. his a talented player gulbis but his still young and inexperienced, a few more years and he wouldn't have lost that 5-1 lead in the third

Yeah a shame that Gulbis fell apart so badly there. It's the sort of thing you might have expected him to do a year or so ago, but it seems that his mental demons, as well as his technical deficiences off his forehand wing are still present. Incredibly painful drama.

That late drama with Gulbis/Ancic has just cost me an absolutely huge accumulator. Looked to be timed like clockwork and then that. Sigh.

What an unbelievable match in the end. Gulbis was wasteful in the first set but held serve easily enough to force a tiebreak, and won that ensuing decider 7 points to 1. Then, in the second, the Argentine ganied an early break and held on despite winning less points on his first ball as he began to carve up the Latvian's secnod delivery winning 78%. Gulbis, though, recovered and burst out to a 5-1 lead in the third set before he astonishingly lost 5 games in a row (3 of them on serve). Acasuso saved a break point at 6-5 and eventually served it out despite being outhit 19 to 4 in aces, and winning far less points behind the first ball. Lots of very disappointed punters, and surely a youngster in Gulbis who many will be taking with more caution in future.

ERNEST HAS A CONFIDENT SERVE, THIS IS A GREAT WEAPON ON HARD! In adittion, HE HAS MORE MOBILITY THAN JOSE AND HE CAN PLAY SERVE-VOLE, TOO! ACASUSO IS A CLAY-PLAYER, HE DOESN"T LIKE HARD COURTS!

I have no time for the regular write-up but Gulbis all the way for me here. He has the power and the serve and Smoking Joe is just coming out of a (bad) clay week. Can't see him winning this one, Gulbis -4 @1.7 for me.

lol, everyone has tipped gulbis, but i wouldn't really back him at these odds. Acasuso looked like he tanked his match against montanes to prepare here. Gulbis has done excellently in grandslams but still has a long way to go. I think there could be a chance of an upset. Acasuso presents value with his heavy groundies

Acasuso's best surface is the clay. Andd he hasnt really proven himself on the hard courts. Although he has the ability and the game to play well on Hard courts, he hasnt. He has played some poor matches recently and doenst look like he can get past Gulbis. Gulbis on the other hand doesnt have the bets form on hard courts on clay in the past year at 11-9 but his recent form seems too dominant. He is an up and coming player and his games at the french and wimbledon show that he is on the rise and i see him continuing. Cant see him losing form for a while.

Gublis should win this with ease. Acasuso was destroyed on the dirt by Montanes (someone with half the game of Gublis) on his "prefered" surface, so i see the very talented "Swan" taking him out here, probably in 2.

Just can't see even a small chance that Acasuso will be able to taka one set..Gulbis is on the rise and the hardcort just fits him well fr his game...

After watching Acasuso in his match against Albert Montanes, I think his chances here are slimmer than Posh spice. Gulbis has been a revelation all year and now that the hard courts have appeared he will be looking to carry on that form. Big serve and a blistering forehand (much like Acasuso) the Latvian possesses, hard to look past a 2-0 win for Ernests. I also think Gulbis is top 5 potential by the way.

With a good week in Toronto, the quickly rising Ernests Gulbis could be just on the fringe of the top 40 (what would be a career high ranked to date) and though he has drawn a tough quarter he has the firepower to scare a lot of top ranked players. He has the luxury of a booming serve backed up with some mighty powerful groundstrokes, but as he explained during a Wimbledon press conference the Latvian is pleased that his game is no longer just about all-out attack, and that he can pull out the defense when needed. He certainly has the athleticism to do that, but will seldom need it here if he is fully fit given Acasuso's recent form and heavily reliance on his forehand. The Argentine won just 2 games against the powerless style of Montanes in Amersfoort, boasts a fairly pathetic 27-43 record on this terrain and has never performed well at TMS level outside of his favoured clay terrain. Jose has also experienced difficulties opposing the big-serving power players as recent losses to Lopez, Kohly, Mirnyi, Mahut, Almagro and Roddick would attest, and the chances of him turning the tide here is seemingly zero-to-none against what could potentially be a future top 3 star.

Outside chance for Acasuso given Gulbis's injury problems but Gulbis should make it home for the win.

Surely Acasuso tanked tanked last week to get a head start to Canada, but he stands no chance in this match.
